23 September 2023Future Island Opening , Albano Campus, Stockholm
Future Island has officially been inaugurated as part of the main landscape at the new Albano Campus of Stockholm University!
The project, developed by OOZE (Eva Pfannes & Sylvain Hartenberg) and Marjetica Potrč has been commissioned by the Public Art Agency Sweden for two Swedish public property developers, Akademiska Hus and Svenska Bostader.
Future Island is a narrative landscape. Its story is climate change. It is a micro-ecosystem, a biotope of plants, animals and stones that constantly adapts to the slowly changing conditions over the next 100 years. The island is divided along the latitude of 59°21’38”N into two zones: a warm zone in the north and a cold zone in the south. The warm zone is heated up to 5°C more than the surrounding area, creating harsh conditions that simulate the ones experienced by flora and fauna at the front lines of climate change. It is an experimental platform that communicates climate change to the public and creates a shared imaginary of our possible future.
