The Água Carioca pilot at the Sitio Burle Marx in Rio de Janeiro is a follow-up of an earlier research project that explored the potentialities of natural, self-sufficient and decentralized small-scale water management systems with constructed wetlands. The holistic Água Carioca strategy is improving social and environmental conditions in neighbourhoods remote from public infrastructure.
The pilot is located in the premises of the former residence and nursery of the internationally acclaimed Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle-Marx. Ooze will connect the guesthouse to a cyclic water system and research on the tropical optimization of the Água Carioca strategy. The team will collaborate with the botanists of the Sitio to choose from their collection of over 3500 plant species to turn the constructed wetland technology into an efficient and beautiful landscape.
The Água Carioca exhibition in the former atelier of Roberto Burle Marx will open in spring 2016.
This project is supported by the Creative Industries Fund NL.
