OOZE talks at the World Urban Forum 11, Katowice, Poland - Voices from Cities Event

29 June 2022

Community-driven Acceleration of Urban Transformation

How can we turn the ambitious goals into tangible projects for a more sustainable and in¬clusive future? Community-driven design practices are making it possible to accelerate the much-needed urban transformation in many places at once. In conversation with policy makers, we look for models to give framework to these socio-spatial projects.
The event invites two remarkable and innovative practices that are internationally active on this front.
Eva Pfannes from OOZE architects and urbanists (www.ooze.eu.com) was involved in Rotterdam’s Local Energy Action Plan that integrated local community dynamics in the energy transition policy of the city. She also co-initiated the King’s Cross Pond Club, a community-driven initiative of natural bathing in the midst of urban regeneration in London.
The RIBA Charles Jencks Award winner Anupama Kundoo (www.anupamakundoo.com) who founded her practice in the experimental town of Auroville, India, from where she developed a sustainable approach to architecture and urban design based on experimentation and reuse of materials. Based on her experience as practitioner and as a teacher, working worldwide, she will explore the importance of a different attitude and strategy to deal with values, knowledge, resources, and communities locally in order to respond the global societal challenges.
a round table discussion will search for lessons-to-learn on different policy levels by
Roeland Dudal from Architecture Workroom Brussels (www.architectureworkroom.eu). Eric Corijn, professor Urban Studies of the VUBrussels, co-director Policy and Research of the Global Parliament of Mayors (www.globalparliamentofmayors.org) and chair of Brussels 2030 (www.brussels2030.be) will bring in how the government can make a structural and cultural framework to stimulate community-driven urban transformation practices.
Margit Noll, CEO of the European Partnership Driving Urban Transitions, will bridge from the local policy challenges and the needs of the community-driven practices to the European policy and research frameworks and back.
