We work across the fields of art, architecture and urban design. We have the ability to anticipate the implications of projects in their spatial, social and cultural contexts, and always aim to improve the quality of life and of public space.
We are particularly involved in developing designs that integrate the water cycle, not only technically, but also socially and culturally.
We are often involved in projects from concept to production. This gives us a deep understanding of aesthetics, materials and space, which enriches our work and enhances the beauty and feasibility of each project.
OOZE has expertise in the following fields:
1. Strategic Thinking
Our thinking is holistic, integrated and forward thinking. Our research and creativity generate innovative but spatially grounded strategies for future urban and rural environments, as well as organisations.
Example projects: Coal Lake City, Atelier LUMA, Água Carioca, City of 1,000 Tanks
2. Education, Engagement and Communication
We transform abstract concepts, such as sustainability, climate change or the water cycle, in to something tangible that people are able to understand and engage with. Our designs are transformative, empowering users to appropriate space and develop it further. We present solutions in ways that are understandable and persuasive.
Example projects: Wind Lift, Between the Waters, Future Island
3. Collaboration and Participation
We are skilled and experienced in conducting stakeholder engagement and community participation (interviews, events, roundtables), ensuring that interventions are well-received and users take ownership. Therefore, investments in time and resources are not wasted.
Example projects: The Public Space Society, Théâtre Évolutif, Água Paulista
4. Surprising and innovative ideas
Every project of OOZE is different. We bring a fresh perspective to tricky problems with our collaborative and experimental approach, whether that’s an inefficient interior, urban regeneration or our food culture.
Example projects: The Cook, the Farmer..., Villa Rotterdam, Seaside Apartment, SMAAKSTAAT
5. Creating programme and community
Our proposals activate space, generating social, economic and environmental value, whether from (temporarily) vacant property or meanwhile space, as part of an event, or a longer term vision.
Example projects: King’s Cross Pond Club, Emscher Village
6. Technical design and execution
Above all in the functioning, feasibility and implementation of sustainable systems incorporating natural elements and ecosystems.
Example projects: Água Carioca Pilot at Sitio Burle Marx, Hortus Oblitus
