Opening - Container Village & Between the Waters

22 June 2013

The visitor center: “Container Village”, realized for the art manifestation EMSCHERKUNST 2013 is opening on the 22-06-2013 in Oberhausen @ 12.00am.

On the same day , the project Between the waters designed with Marjetica Portc will be re-opened. This project, originally installed in 2010 has been purchased by the Emschergenossenschaft and reinstalled for EMSCHERKUNST.2013.

The event will be running for 100 days till the 6 of October 2013

EMSCHERKUNST.2013 is the second instalment of the event series under the curatorship of Florian Matzner and is to be understood as a ‘future workshop’ to accompany, document, and influence the structural change in the northern Ruhr region and the conversion process of the Emscher River until 2020. The total exhibition space encompasses around 47 square kilometres, and is located between the participating cities of Duisburg, Dinslaken, Oberhausen, Essen, Bottrop, and Gelsenkirchen.

In addition to the obvious topics ‘Emscher conversion’ and ‘Emscher Landscape Park’, the exhibition will focus mainly on artists dealing with climate change and ecological issues. Elements of participation will also play an important role - the projects by Swedish artist Elin Wikström or the Slovenian Apolonija Šušteršič will actively involve the public in the creation process of their works. Invited artists are Ai Weiwei, Daniel Buren, Hans Op de beeck, Tomás Saraceno, Tue Greenfort amongst others.
