Public Space Society
A temporary public space to investigate inclusivity in tomorrow's urban environment
The Public Space Society is an experiment that articulates a shared public space organised and managed by residents on the neighbourhood level.
Inspired by the knowledge and self-organisational experience of the Swiss Genossenschaft, The Public Space Society attempts to design a new model of public space by taking into consideration all pertinent parties: the owner of the land, the users, nearby residents, visitors, and the citizens of Zurich. A temporary open public space is installed and demarcated by over-sized markers, which form a lightweight construction in the shape of a square.
Alongside other activities, the structure hosted a series of roundtable discussions organised as part of the project, inviting local residents to discuss the nature of their neighbourhood and public space. The project was realised in cooperation with Sadion Brache Hardturm Association as part of the Art and the City public art festival in Zurich.
