22 March 2021
Between January and March 2021, City of 1000 Tanks carried out the “Next Generation” Campaign across 10 vulnerable communities in Chennai to catalyze social change at the community level by celebrating children as “Water Ambassadors”. Led by on-ground partners IRCDUC & USDT, children of age groups 8-15 participated in a variety of interactive art and culture activities on water related themes. Next to creating insightful drawings about their water problems and solutions, they also performed local dance forms, street theatre and songs. On World Water Day 2021, the children conducted a ‘Water Rally’ in their respective settlements, holding up slogans that they curated themselves. Some powerful ones were “Broken Pipes; Impact Lives” and “Plants need seeds to grow; We need pathways for water to flow!”. These results and more will be showcased in our City of 1000 Tanks campaign commissioned by the Goethe Institut under its Excellency project. Stay tuned for more information on the launch and how you can follow the updates.
