20 December 2023Prayagraj excursion at the confluence of 3 rivers, India
OOZE, Deltares and RVO embarque on a new programme of Water as Leverage for Resilient Cities Asia programme on the Ganges river basin. A first field visit to Prayagraj is organised to kickstart a “Hotspot analysis” for the city. This study will be prepared by the team in collaboration with Prayagraj Municipal Corporation and National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).
We will focus on mapping the challenges and opportunities of the city in relation to water, urban development and climate change. Our immersive journey into Prayagraj will also help to keep focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) so that the hotspot analysis also includes communities for a just climate and resilient city.
Prayagraj is home to 2 Million inhabitants. It also hosts as many as 200 Millions of pilgrims over 55 days during the Melha events every year at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna River and the mythical Sarasvati River. The Kumbh Mela every 12 years is the biggest of these events , it will take place in 2025.
