29 August 2014
“The Wind Lift” will be inaugurated on Friday the 29th in Folkestone as part of the Folkestone art Trienial 2014 : Look out
The project is curated by Lewis Biggs and organized by the Creative Foundation.
The Wind Lift project uses one of the Foord viaduct’s nineteen arches as a wind funnel. A wind turbine is placed in the upper section of the arch to produce energy, which in turn is used to power a construction passenger lift. The lift operates on an occasional basis. When enough wind energy has been collected, the lift is able to ascend and take the visitors on a ride to the “Lookout”. By using on-site wind energy to power the lift, the lookout opens up a fresh perspective, not only on the surrounding landscape, but also on humanity’s dependence on natural resources.
The other artists invited are Andy Goldsworthy, Alex Hartley, Amina Menia, Diane Dever & Jonathan Wright, Emma Hart, Gabriel Lester, Ian Hamilton Finlay, John Harle & Tom Pickard with the Folkestone Futures Choir,Krijn de Koning, Jyll Bradley, muf Architecture/Art, Pablo Bronstein, rootoftwo, Sarah Staton, Something & Son, Strange Cargo, Tim Etchells, Will Kwan and Yoko Ono.
The event runs from 30st of August to 2nd of November 2014
