Worldmaking! in Rotterdam

2 March 2020

On 5 March 2020, Eva Pfannes will speak at the Worldmaking! Cities and Architecture on the Cold War Frontier, taking place at Independent School for the City in Rotterdam.

The event is part of the double book presentation, both dealing with planning and architecture during the Cold War period: 'Architecture in Global Socialism, Eastern Europe, West Africa, and the Middle East in the Cold War' by Łukasz Stanek, and 'New Towns on the Cold War Frontier - Book in progress', by Crimson Historians and urbanists. Both focus on the enduring mark on the urban landscapes of West Africa and the Middle East that planners and architects from both sides of the Iron Curtain have left. A mark that is increasingly difficult to unravel and read, but huge and important nonetheless.

Eva will take part in the discussion following the book presentation alongside the authors as well as Reinier de Graaf (OMA) and Michelle Provoost , discussing the implications of working as a western architect within Asia.
